Keep your keratin & color looking salon-fresh for longer

The aftercare habits that protect your investment — the right products, the water temperature and the one thing to avoid.

A keratin treatment at our Fort Myers studio takes about two and a half hours, and colour or highlights can take longer still. What happens in the weeks afterwards decides whether that time keeps paying off — or fades in a month.

Turn the water down

Hot water opens the cuticle, and an open cuticle lets colour molecules escape and smoothing treatments wear off faster. Wash in lukewarm water and give your hair a cool rinse at the end. It is the smallest change on this list and the one that makes the most visible difference.

The one thing to avoid: sulfates

Sulfate shampoos strip both colour and keratin. Switching to a sulfate-free, colour-safe shampoo is the single most protective habit you can adopt after a salon visit. Wash less often than you think you need to, and let dry shampoo cover the days in between.

Heat, sun and salt water

Always use a heat protectant before flat irons or blow dryers, and keep the temperature lower than you are used to — a keratin treatment already does the smoothing work for you. Southwest Florida adds two more enemies: UV, which lifts and dulls colour, and the pool and the Gulf. Rinse your hair with fresh water before you swim so it absorbs less chlorine or salt.

Come back before it looks bad

Root touch-ups and a refresh of your smoothing treatment are quicker, kinder to the hair and easier to plan when they are booked on schedule rather than as a rescue. Ask us at your appointment when yours should be. Our hair studio is at 4650 S Cleveland Ave #3B, Fort Myers, FL 33907 — call or text (239) 985-9407.
